Today intense light – of any wavelength – often originates small. Today’s surface mount LED sources are on the scale of couple hundred microns. High harmonic generation laser capillaries are in this size range too and for UV/Vis wavelengths and laser plasma sources focus even smaller. Material scientists and chemists must often work with tiny sample volumes / quantities.
